EXPLANATION OF ARTIFACTS
The artifact above represents a residential floor plan. This helps explain how I met these standards because in order for me to have drawn that I need to know how to dimension, scale, and read the floor plans.
reflection
Course standard 4 is all about preparing residential floor plans. Standard 4.1 states to research and describe general codes related to floor plans. General codes are restrictions and regulations that come with the design of any building. Depending on what state you are in general codes may vary. Sketching a residential floor plan to scale is a very important step when drawing a floor plan because if the scaling is wrong it will jeopardize the whole project. This all has to do with standard 4.2 which states to sketch to scale residential floor plans. Standard 4.3 states to draw dimensioned floor plans using appropriate symbols. When drawing a floor plan you need to be able to understand all the different symbols involved and also you need to apply appropriate dimensioning rules (4.4). There are many rules to dimensioning, but these are some you need to know: put smaller dimensions within bigger ones, don’t have the same thing dimensioned more then once unless necessary, and also make the dimensions neat and straight. Standard 4.5 states to incorporate aspects of sustainable and universal design, which to me means to incorporate different design ideas into your residential floor plan. Standard 4.6 states to demonstrate the use of the Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software.4.6 related to residential floor plans problem solving. This standard was met by me using AutoCAD in Intro to Drafting and also again in architecture 1. I met all these standards by using AutoCAD and drawing my floor plan and dimensioning it correctly and using general codes to make sure my floor plan came out correct. This standard has real- world application because if you become an architect you need to know general codes related to floor plans and you need to know how to draw a floor plan right. My future learning goal is to expand my knowledge on general codes related to floor plans.
